List of Common Scan-In Errors

Error: Non-OTC Products must be serialized

What it Means:

  • You may have accidentally scanned the linear barcode (lot-level) instead of the GS1 Data Matrix 2D barcode (looks like a QR Code).

How to Fix It:

  • Please be sure to scan the 2D barcode.

Error: This order contains controlled substances

What it Means:

  • Your user does not have permission to scan in contain controlled substances.

How to Fix It:

  • Please ask your OneScan super user or LSPedia Support to enable the "Scan In Orders with Controlled Substances" permission under your user settings.

Error: Unable to auto process an Order with controlled products

What it Means:

  • The order you are trying to auto process contains controlled substances.

How to Fix It:

  • Orders containing controlled substances cannot be auto processed.

Error: Unable to auto process an Order with controlled products


What it Means:

  • The order you are trying to auto process contains controlled substances.

How to Fix It:

  • Orders containing controlled substances cannot be auto processed.

Error: sGTIN was already scanned.

What it Means:

  • The item you are trying to scan has already been scanned.

How to Fix It:

  • You cannot scan in the same item twice. No action is needed.

Error: Serial Number should be under 20 chars.

What it Means:

  • The serial number of the item you are scanning is too long in the associated EPCIS file or on the product itself. It should be 19 characters or less.

  • Your scanner may be misconfigured. The group separator character needs to be enabled to ensure proper encoding of GS1 Data Matrix 2D barcodes.

How to Fix It:

  • If the serial number is too long, notify your trading partner of the issue. They should send a corrected file or fix the issue for future shipments
    • You can check the length of the serial number by looking at the item you are trying to scan in on the "Scan In" screen. If the serial number value for the item is longer than 19 characters, you will need to contact your trading partner.

  • If your scanner is misconfigured, enable the group separator and GS1 Data Matrix settings in your scanner manual.
    • Reach out to the support team for your scanner for further assistance (Honeywell, Zebra, etc.)

    • LSPedia Support can help as well but it is best to reach out to the scanner's support team as they should know exactly what settings to enable.

Error: sGTIN not found.

What it Means:

  • The item you are trying to scan is not in the order.

How to Fix It:

  • You can scan these items in using the normal Scan In feature on an order or do a separate Unplanned EPCIS scan in for these items.

  • Edge Receive may not recognize these items as it is designed specifically to work with items that are apart of orders that are already in the system.

Error: UPCs are not allowed on this page.

What it Means:

  • You scanned a linear barcode or other UPC barcode (lot-level).

How to Fix It:

  • Scan the GS1 Data Matrix 2D barcode for the product or scan a serialized non-exempt product.

Error: Mismatched GTIN (Global Trade Item Number).

What it Means:

  • The GTIN is not maintained in OneScan's product master data set.

How to Fix It:

  • Many OTC or exempt products will not be maintained in OneScan's product master data set as these products are not required to be tracked under DSCSA.

  • If you would like a specific item's master data, you will need to reach out to the manufacturer of that product to obtain it.
